Chuck FAQ and Installation

  • Disassembly the chuck and replace the damaged part.
  • Finally, check the oil pressure system if the hydraulic cylinder and the hydraulic pressure tank operate smoothly.
  • It may be too much chips are accumulated inside the chuck, or the draw tube is loose.
  • Let's first disassemble the chuck and re-clean the internal chips.
  • Reinstall the chuck and draw tube in the correct way and lock it tightly.

The main reason for the sliding of the workpiece is :

  1. The mater jaw stroke is insufficient: Make arrangement such that when workpiece is chucked, the master jaw will be in the neighborhood of the strike center to ensure the clamping force is sufficient.
  2. Chucking force is insufficient: Confirm whether the set hydraulic pressure is reached.
  3. Formed dia of the top jaw does not match workpiece dia.: Perform reforming based on correct forming method.
  4. Cutting force excessively high: Recalculate cutting force and confirm whether the force methods chuck specifications.
  5. Insufficient lubrication on master jaws and each slideway: After re-lubricating the parts, perform lubrication from the grease nipple and perform chucking operation of pawls several times with no workpiece held in the chuck.
  6. Speed is excessively high: The higher rotary speed, the smaller clamping force. It is recommended to reduce speed to the level where necessary chucking force can be obtained.

Please refer to the instructional movie.

  • Poor accuracy of soft jaw is the most common problem. First, confirm peripheral and end face run-out and tightens bolts to ensure the run-out will not too excessively.
  • After top jaw has been removed, clean the serration portion thoroughly and tighten the pawl installation bolts to specification.
  • Use the recommended soft jaw height. To avoid the soft jaw deformation due to the height being too high or the fixing screws being deformed due to the extension too long.
  • Confirm whether the forming plug is parallel and opposite relative to the chuck end surface and whether the forming plug has been deformed due to chucking force, also check hydraulic pressure during forming , surface roughness of forming portion to ensure the correct processes forming.
  • Reduce chucking force to the extent that machining will be possible and prevent warping from occurring.
